It was a windy day and no one wanted the lead: the first 800m was clocked in a "tactical" 2:17! As a result, the last part of the race was a sprint and the overall time was slow. Interestingly, seven runners, the 5th through the 11th men, finished within 1.3 seconds of each other: 3:58.65 to 3:59.97! Results at: Big East Results.
Alum Brett Wintermute ('04) of Widener University participated in the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships at Widener in Chester, PA. Brett ran a college PR of 59.74 in the 400 IH. Complete results at: MAC Results.
-- On May 13, 2005, Alum Keith Krieger ('03) of Duke University, competed in the ECAC/IC4A Track and Field Championships at Princeton University. Running in the 5K, Keith finished 12th with a PR of 14:26.51. For those keeping records -- isn't that the point?! -- Keith's time is only a "nanosecond" off Alum Marc Pelerin's PR in the event, 14.26.44, which he ran last May at the Big East Championships. Former Toms River North star, Pete Hess of Maryland was also in the race, finishing 24th in 14:55.23. Results at: ECAC/IC4A Results.
-- On May 16, 2005, Alum Marc Pelerin ('02) of Villanova University participated in the Tuppeny Twilight Meet at Villanova. Marc posted a season-best 3:52.48 in the 1500m, finishing 4th in the event. Marc's PR in the event is 3:51.87, run at the Big East Championships in May of 2004. Also in the race was Ted Callinan, the brother of Cherokee coach Chris Callinan, who finished 16th with a 3:56.64. Complete results at: Tuppeny Twilight Results. Also, there are small "proof" pictures of Marc displayed for purchase on RunNova. They include a great series on Page 2 of the Tupp pictures, especially the ones, three-quarters of the way down, showing Marc getting slaughtered at the start. Try not to laugh when you see them!
-- Over the past week, several Cherokee Alums returned to see how their old team is doing. On May 17th, 2004 Alums Brett Wintermute of Widener University and Nick Freeman of Felician College stopped by to watch the Cherokee Invitational, while 2001 Alum Dave Sitzer got roped into actually working the finish line at the meet! On May 18th, both Dave and 2000 Alum Joe Halin joined Coach Shaklee on the sidelines watching the Olympic Conference Championships at Pennsauken High School. And on May 20th, Alum Marc Pelerin of Villanova University visited the team at the Burlington County Championships at Maple Shade, NJ. Welcome home, guys!
-- On May 27th and 28th, 2005, Cherokee was at the NJSIAA Sectional Track and Field Championships at Egg Harbor Township H.S. and several Alums made the trip to support the team: Dave Sitzer ('01), not pictured, and Kevin Cuneo, ('04) of Monmouth University, pictured here looking glum during one of the races.
