Summer and Cross Country, 2010

-- On June 18, 2010, Alum Joe Halin '00, of the Moorestown Running Company, traveled to Duluth, Minnesota for the 34th Annual Grandma's Marathon! Joe finished in 29th place among a stellar field in 2:32.32. Splits show an overall pace of 5:50, with an incredibly steady 5:38 pace through the 10K and the half-way point! This slipped to 5:41 by the 20 mile point, and 5:47 by 25 miles. Word is he was hoping for a sub-2:30 but was hampered by a strong wind along "the beautiful north shore of Lake Superior!" Details at: Grandma's Marathon. The "Joe Halin" page of the results at: Joe Halin Page.

There were several current "Chiefs" in the race, as well as two parent Alums, Don Henriksen and Mike McCarroll. For detailed information, see the results at: L & M Sports Results. Marc is coming off four weeks of duties as a running camp counselor and many more weeks of solid training. He's looking forward to racing the Philadelphia Half-Marathon on September 19th. Details on the 5K at: L & M Sports Results. There are a few paragraphs not worth chasing down in the New York Times . . . ah, I mean the Ocean City Gazette and the following picture of Marc and Women's winner, Katie Van Horn, posing on the beach after the run.

And in the category of "too much information," the Monmouth website lists Sean as 6' 3" 139 pounds. It must be his mother's favorite dish, Haggis, that is fattening-up our guy! Further details on the race at: Go MU Hawks.

-- On September 4, 2010, Alum Chris Applegate, '09 of Bucknell University, began his Cross Country season at the Bucknell Open, a 3 Mile race held on campus. Chris took 18th overall, 14th on his team, in 15:31 (5:10 pace). Details at: Bucknell Open. These pictures on sale at Bucknell: Bucknell Pics. Hurry, they're going fast!

-- On September 19, 2010, Alum Marc Pelerin '02, now working as an Assistant Coach at Cherokee High School, joined over 18,000 other runners at the ING Rock and Roll Philadelphia Half-Marathon through downtown Philadelphia and along the Kelly (East) and King (West) Drives. Marc began the race pacing himself alongside several world-class female marathoners but, sometime after the mid-point, he began to lose contact with this group. He flew through the first mile going under 5 minutes; then the 5K in 15:41 (5:03); 10K in 31:46 (5:07); 10 Miles in 52:13 (5:14); Finish in 1:10.19 (5:22), 48th overall. Yikes! Steve crossed the line in 36:19 (5:51 pace), taking 65th place, a full 2 seconds ahead of his brother Matt who finished in 36:23, taking 68th place! That said, it is important to note that Matt clearly outclassed his brother in the age/divisional races: Matt took 5th in his division, while Steve had to settle for 18th! Details at: Great Race. The pictures were supplied by Alum Parent Mike McCarroll. The first is at the 3 mile mark; the second just before the finish; and the third that might be titled, "Why we run!"
