"It was a good race, it went out a little too slow; I was hoping to run the
fastest time of the day but after the first two miles it just wasn't there,"
Wilson said. "It's nice to win, but not exactly what I wanted for time."
Wilson, a senior, is only in his second year as a cross-country runner,
converting from soccer. After winning the Sectional championship, Wilson said it
was definitely a decision that paid off.
"This is so much more competitive than what soccer was," Wilson said. "My
teammates and coaches are amazing, I'll always miss soccer because I grew up
with it, but I'm glad I made the decision."
Wilson also provided some insight on his plans for Meet of Champs and the
Foot Locker Regionals. Because the two races are just three days apart, many
runners may have to decide between the two. Wilson confirmed he will run at
Regionals, but left the door open for Meet of Champs.
"I'm definitely doing Regionals, but we're still deciding if Meet of Champs
will be a smart decision or not," Wilson said.
For now, Wilson is looking forward to Saturday at Holmdel Park, where he
has a chance to break his school record.
"I'm thrilled (to run at Groups), I'm hoping to get the school record,"
Wilson said.
